LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government will bring to use 10,000 vehicles for delivery of essential products like vegetables, milk, medicines etc. to assure the public of availability of these products and prevent them from stepping out of their houses during the 21-day lockdown.

The UP CM Yogi Adityanath in a statement said that close to 4,500 police response vehicles (PRVs), 4,200 ambulances- both 102 and 108 as well as vehicles owned by government’s food department and other government vehicles will help in delivering these products at peoples’ doorsteps while appealing that people stay inside their homes and not step out to mandis and grocery stores.

“I want to assure the entire 23 crore population of Uttar Pradesh that we have made prior arrangements regarding the availability of food, food products and other essentials. There is adequate supply. I just have one appeal-stay at your homes and please do not step out to mandis and grocery stores,” he said.

The central government has exempted ration shops (including PDS) , grocery stores, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths, meat and fish, animal fodder from the 21-day lockdown announced by the prime minister Narendra Modi earlier tonight. However, soon after his announcement, many areas in the country saw people rush to their nearest grocery stores and shops to stock up necessary supplies, defying rules of isolation.
