Delhi locks down borders, police to issue curfew passes for essential travel

NEW DELHI: To ensure the smooth continuance of essential services, Delhi Police today decided to issue curfew passes for goods vehicles driving into the city from the national capital region (NCR) carrying essential items.

The owners of these vehicles will have to collect the passes from the DCP offices in their respective areas and hand them over to the drivers of the vehicles after which they would be allowed entry through the border posts.

The oder comes barely hours after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in a press conference requested citizens to follow the regime of self-isolation, thereby promising the continuance of essential services.

Police officers say that the vehicle owners in Gurugram and Faridabad can collect their passes from the DCP office in south-west Delhi and south-east Delhi respectively. While the ones in Noida can get it from the DCP office in east Delhi.

Similarly, passes will be issued in the DCP office outer Delhi as well. The passes will be issued within the next few days and would have to be displayed by the vehicle owners.

In a notification this evening, the Delhi Police said, “For the movement of persons involved in the essential goods and services, the concerned Delhi-based organisations have to get the curfew passes from their respective district police headquarters”
