Several recruiters commit to honoring offers to students amid job uncertainty due to coronovirus

Amidst growing uncertainty over job offers getting revoked at campuses, here are a dozen top recruiters who have committed to honouring all job offers made to students. Companies like Capgemini, HUL, ITC, Airtel, Aditya Birla group, Vedanta Group, Flipkart, Godrej, L’Oreal, KPMG, Dabur, Capgemini, Whirlpool, Dabur and PayU that ET spoke to said they would honour all job offers handed out across all campuses they visited.

The last few weeks since the Covid19 outbreak in India has left students even at top IITs and IIMs anxious after USbased recruiter Gartner revoked offers.

Earlier this week, HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in his tweet had appealed to all campus recruiters not to withdraw job offers to graduating students of technical education institutions.

“We (IIMs) held an online interaction with recruiters where most companies confirmed that they would go ahead with offers,” said Amit Karna, chair of placements committee at IIM Ahmedabad. In a good year, close to 90% of students across top campuses get job offers, with crore-plus packages at the high end.

Walmart-owned Flipkart has assured employees there will be no pay cuts and all job offers, including internships, will be honoured. KPMG is also going ahead with campus recruitment (both finals and internships). Still, the new recruits’ joining may get delayed given the current business scenario.

“We will honour all offers, but given the business scenario, their joining might be delayed,” said Sarthak Raychaudhuri, VP-HR, Asia at Whirlpool Corp.

ITC has just concluded online induction for its summer interns from management schools who have commenced their projects, working from home. “Despite the challenging and unprecedented situation, ITC is honouring offers made across all types of campuses,” said its corporate HR head, Amitav Mukherji.

Sumit Mitra – head, group HR and corporate services for Godrej Industries and associate companies — said all offers to the 2020 batch would be honoured with no changes to salary packages or joining dates.

B-school summer trainees have already begun a 100% agile version of internships at HUL, and the company is set to onboard recent graduates to join Unilever Future Leaders Programme as management trainees from early May.

Even Vedanta Group and Capgemini are going ahead honouring all campus offers including at the IITs and IIMs said their respective HR heads, Madhu Srivastava and Pallavi Tyagi.
