tamil nadu: Tamil Nadu cases surpass 2000 mark; reports highest single-day spike in cases

Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported the highest ever single-day spike in cases on Tuesday with the State reporting 121 cases and taking the total tally of cases to 2058. Chennai accounted for 103 of the 121 cases on Tuesday.

The number of children below the age of 12 who have tested positive went up from 111 on Monday to 121 on Tuesday, the media bulletin confirmed. Of the 2058 positive cases, 1392 are male and 666 are female patients.

Chennai is the worst-hit district in the State with the total number of cases standing at 673. Coimbatore has the second-highest number of cases in the State with 141 cases.

The number of active cases in the State went up from 809 on Monday to 902 on Tuesday. The media bulletin classified sources of infection into ‘primary’ and ‘contact’ cases. For primary sources, the bulletin said a detailed investigation was underway.

A 68-year-old man who was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai and passed away on Tuesday took the death toll to 25 in the State, a government media bulletin confirmed on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, 27 patients were discharged taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 1128.

In all, 30,692 people are under home quarantine, 47 in government quarantine facilities, and 1,856 people are under isolation at hospitals across the state. So far, 1,01,874 samples and 93,189 persons have been tested. There are 1,908 samples pending in the State.
